The Australasian Timber Drying Group was originally convened as the Joint
Timber Seasoning Committee by resolution of the 17th Forest Products Research
Conference in 1975 following a recommendation from the Institute of Wood
Science seminar on high temperature drying. The first meeting was on 3 July
1975.
The JTSC changed its name to ATDG at the meeting after the 25th Forest
Products Research Conference in November 1996.
The Australasian Timber Drying Group was established to provide a means
of information exchange between organisations involved in research, development,
and extension in timber seasoning and aspects of the relationship of water
and wood. Its membership is open to all and includes representation from
industry, industry associations and consultants with special interest in
the field, as well as research organisations. The membership was originally
confined to Australia, but was extended in 1986 to include representation
from the New Zealand Forest Research Institute.
Each year, ATDG members meet to present and discuss work undertaken throughout Australia and New Zealand including development work at operational sites as well as laboratory-based research.
ATDG members operate in various capacities to provide industry with current
and accurate advice as well as research and development services.
